I think photography has to be the beginning of all of my creative endeavors. My love for photography started when I was 10 and I got my first camera, had endless curiousity, eagerness to learn how it worked and how far I could push the limits of photography. I have since then ventured into 35mm photography, to practice patience when composing a shot. Below are some of my favorite photographs I've taken.

a Sham Shui Po storefront
Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong
Nikon FM2 [35mm]
February 2019
Sham Shui Po is a district known for selling electronics parts as well as textile materials in bulk. As someone who enjoys any sort of DIY, it is a place where I like to spend a lot of my time!
a local butcher shop

February 2019
A common sight around Hong Kong, with its distinct red lamps giving everything around it a red tint. These photographs of Hong Kong are some that remind me the most of home.
bus 351 westbound
Vancouver, Canada
Nikon FM2 [35mm]
July 2017
This was taken on the bus from White Rock to Vancouver, after visiting my grandparents before returning to the city. It must’ve been almost 9pm, still bright in the middle of summer. The sunset over a long stretch of highway has to be one of my favorite and most nostalgic sights, not something I would experience regularly in Hong Kong.
Ulankhuus, Mongolia
Lumix LX100
September 2018
This was taken shortly before I arrived at the house of my host family. Most of the time I traveled amongst people that didn’t speak English. Fortunately my trips would be coordinated by passing a phone call from my local correspondent to bus drivers, I just had to hope there was no miscommunication along the way. This photograph mirrors that of the sunset bus ride I had in Vancouver. The nostalgia that linked me to something familiar is largely what eased a lot of anxiety I had while traveling somewhere unknown to me.
mischievous mishka
Ulankhuus, Mongolia
Lumix LX100
September 2018
This is Mishka, a nickname meaning mouse. He is the youngest brother in my host family. I helped him carry out his chores, squatting in nice silence, exchanging glances and the widest smiles, enjoying each others’ company.
sanka and the falcon
Sogoog, Mongolia
Lumix LX100
October 2018
Sanka is the youngest of the second host family I stayed with. After a 6km walk for what felt like ages, we arrived at their uncle’s house. I got to hold their falcon and eagle they use to hunt, an ancient tradition practiced throughout West Mongolia.
овөө
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Nikon FM2 [35mm]
October 2017
Өвөө (övöö) means grandfather in Mongolian and is the name for a sacred stone heap. Offerings of food or candy are given (hence the pigeons) every time the altar is circled ‘sunwise’, three times, but the best offerings are stones.
Erenhot, Inner Mongolia
Lumix LX100
October 2018
Erenhot is the border town after the train ride from Mongolia into China. It was a desolate place during the off-season period I visited. The empty alleys and large streets made for an interesting place to explore.
The Great Mosque of Hohhot
Hohhot, Inner Mongolia
Lumix LX100
October 2018
This mosque is the oldest and largest mosque in Inner Mongolia. What caught my eye is the fusion of Islamic and Chinese architecture, something I hadn’t seen before.
Datong, Inner Mongolia
Lumix LX100
November 2018
This alley lies within the inner city of Datong, a part of the city in the process of being ‘preserved’ historically. There was rubble throughout the streets and almost no one around; a huge contrast to the very developed city outside the ancient walls of Datong.
Meandering Great Wall
Beijing, China
Lumix LX 100
November 2018
The Great Wall of China photographed from Simatai. I figured it was a must-see when visiting Beijing.
Temple of Heaven
Beijing, China
Lumix LX100
November 2018
The image of the temple is actually a reflection in the glass that cases traditional stone carvings. It creates an interesting illusion of light and shadows as the stone clouds peek through the sky.
cloisonné vases
Beijing, China
Lumix LX 100
November 2018
A storefront in an antique market in Beijing displays beautiful and intricately crafted cloisonné vases and artwork. Seeing this craft really made me want to try jewelry making, especially using enamel in the process!
night market in the day
Keelung, Taiwan
Nikon FM 2 [35mm}
April 2019
A bustling night market in the day. Taiwan remains one of my favorite countries to visit, rich with culture and lots of really good street food.
train ride in the afternoon sun
Taipei, Taiwan
Nikon FM2 [35mm]
April 2019
Yet another photograph of public transit with sun shining through the windows. There is something super relaxing about the combination of taking public transit with no destination in mind and golden hour.
comfortable silence
Taipei, Taiwan
Nikon FM2 [35mm]
April 2019
An old couple enjoying the sunset in a park. I think deep down we all want to grow old with someone.
uncomfortable silence
Taipei, Taiwan
Nikon FM2 [35mm]
April 2019
A young couple enjoying the view of Taipei 101. The title of this photograph is a contrast to the photograph of the old couple in the park, both thematically and visually. It reminds me of the vulnerability that comes with the start of a relationship at an early stage of life. It is exciting yet anxiety inducing.
Mae Hong Son, Thailand
Fujifilm Disposable
November 2019
Taken from the back of my dad’s motorbike when touring Northern Thailand, I captured this photograph of a family of 6 in the bed of a truck. Many times when using point and shoots on film, you never know how the shot will really turn out. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, with the expression of the little boy and the motion blur of an overtaking-motorcyclist on a bendy road.
