Making handicrafts is my way of channeling my creativity into useful everyday objects. Most crafts I make are out of practicality or to fulfill a certain purpose. Other times, I challenge myself to make things I would’ve otherwise have bought in order to learn new skills and techniques, or to reduce my environmental impact. That way, I create things tailored specifically to me or my friends, and I can appreciate specific design decisions I made suited to my needs.
One day I hope to expand the breadth of my handicrafts, maybe by creating a marketplace for my creations. For now, I continue to create for myself, family and friends as one of my hobbies.

keep developing
July 2022
It's my first time trying screen printing. I used a water-soluble paint to draw my design onto a screen, then used screen filler to fill the negative space. Once dry, the paint can be removed and the screen is ready for printing! It was a really fun project, one I've always wanted to try but never thought it was possible at home. This was a gift for a friends' birthday, a little rough around the edges but I'm sure the next one will be even better!
capybara mug
June 2022
For my birthday party this year I decided to try doing pottery at home and then had it fired and then glazed at a local pottery studio.
chalk bags
December 2021
I’ve made chalk bags before and this Christmas I made a few more. It’s the perfect gift for climbers, and I hand-embroidered personal and unique designs with them in mind.
card wallet
December 2021
Yet another leather craft, this time with a snap-button.
coasters
December 2021
I made sets of personalized coasters for friends and family. I made and printed the designs onto paper, laminated them on ceramic tiles using water-based glue, sealed with a waterproof lacquer and finished by glueing a thin layer of cork on the bottom. They’re not perfect and I wasn’t able to find the exact materials for what I need, but I think they turned out great!
flag
June 2021
This month marks one year working at an outdoor company in Hong Kong. It's been a year full of change and lots of exciting adventures. I made this linen flag depicting some of my favorite places and memories. I used water-based glue to block out the design and then dyed the fabric after. It's something I'd definitely want to experiment more with in the future!
leather wallet
March 2021
I've been going on a lot more outdoor trips and starting to feel like my old wallet was getting too bulky. I tried my hand at making a wallet out of leather, this time one that can fit in my pocket! I decided to add a bit of a personal touch by painting some flowers on the front.
chalk bag
August 2020
I started climbing a few months ago and have so far gotten pretty into the sport. One piece of gear I've always been lacking is a chalk bag. I decided to make my own, something that reflects my style. I hand sewed traditional kazakh embroidery patterns on the side and bottom of the chalk bag, something I picked up from my trip to Mongolia. I'm really happy with how it turned out!
switch case
April 2020
I got a Nintendo Switch Lite and knew it needed a carrying case. Instead of buying one, I decided to crochet my own! I usually find crocheted squares somewhat plain and boring, so I took the chance to learn the ripple stitch in order to make the design a little more intricate!
reusable face masks
March 2020
As you may know, COVID-19 hit the world severely in early 2020. As a way to make use of my time staying at home and social distancing, I produced 30 reusable face masks to donate to low-income families who couldn’t afford disposable face masks.
handbag
December 2019 2020
I made this handbag as a gift to my mom for Christmas. She had been asking me for a while to make her something out of leather, so I took up a trickier project that she would be able to use for a long time. It took 10 hours total of active work, and is one of my more ambitious leather projects.
découpage wooden boxes
December 2019
My neighbor had a huge pile of decorative napkin samples he got at a home decor exposition. Not knowing what to do with them all, he gave them to me. I decided to make use of them by decorating wooden boxes, découpage style, to gift as Christmas presents that year. *My very good friend Cherie helped me with some of these!
pen holder
April 2019
I made this pen holder for my friend’s birthday out of leather. I thought it was fitting since she’s also an artist!
beanie
April 2019
Beanies are one of my favorite knitting projects to make. They’re quick to make and cozy to wear! I knitted this red beanie for a friend of mine. She had requested it in bright red, and it suits her really well!
corduroy jacket
February 2019
I don’t have many jackets I can throw on top of an outfit. After looking around for one I might like, I decided to make my own using corduroy. The project took 3 days to complete, finished with an inner lining, pockets, buttons and a collar.
notebook
December 2018
I usually write in a journal when I travel, and I decided I should make one myself. The design of the travelers’ notebook allows for inserts to be swapped out, making it convenient when traveling to different countries as opposed to buying a complete notebook for every single trip. I printed lines, dots and calendar pages onto paper and bound them into notebooks from scratch. I also made a bunch in bulk to gift to my friends for Christmas that year!
card wallet
December 2018
This card wallet is amongst the first leather projects I ever tried. I could really practice neat stitching and I gifted some of these to my friends that year.
